Veterans Day 2025

The following speech was read by Mayor Newhard at the November 11, 2025, Veterans Day Ceremony –

Veterans of Foreign War Post 4662, members of American Legion Post 214 and their Auxiliaries, Friends, Neighbors, Scouts, our First Responders, and Invited Guests,

Today, we gather once again in gratitude and reflection — united in honor of the men and women who have served our country with courage and devotion. Veterans Day began as Armistice Day, marking the end of World War I — the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month — a moment when the world paused to welcome peace. Each year since, we’ve paused again to remember the cost of that peace, and the people who have preserved it.

The ways we express our gratitude are woven into the life of our community: through ceremonies like today’s, through the stories shared by our Historical Society, through our schools’ lessons and tributes, through the banners and flags that line our streets, and through the simple act of saying, thank you. These moments remind us that service and sacrifice are not abstractions — they are deeply human, deeply personal, and deeply valued.

Warwick has always recognized the importance of service. In gatherings like this one, we come together not only to honor our veterans, but to reaffirm what unites us as Americans — the belief in freedom, duty, and community. Across towns and cities throughout our nation, similar gatherings are taking place today, each one echoing the same message of respect and remembrance.

I am profoundly thankful that we live in a community that cherishes its history and honors those who helped shape it. Our veterans’ organizations, their members, and their families continue to lead by example — through their voices, their actions, and their steadfast presence in our Village life. They remind us of what it means to serve with purpose and to live with gratitude.

On behalf of the Village Board of Trustees, I extend our deepest thanks to all who have served — for your bravery, your integrity, and your unwavering commitment to the ideals of our country, in both war and peace. The freedom we enjoy today is your legacy — one that we honor, protect, and carry forward.

Thank you, and God bless our veterans, our community, and the United States of America.
